In Acts 24:22-27 Felix makes the decision to keep Paul in prison even after Festus takes his place.  Paul has been in chains for over 2 years as we come to the end of chapter 24.  The man who could set him free, Felix, while “having an accurate knowledge of the Way”, does not manifest the fruit of the Holy Spirit of the living God.  His work of the flesh is evident and proves out to be rooted in the love of money.

Scripture urges us to not be deceived by sin.  Surely the words of Jesus move the true child of God when He says, “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?”  We are indeed forgiven and death is not at work in us, but rather it is life working in us.  The love of money is the root of all kinds of evils and will cause us to do things that others on the outside looking in will clearly see as evil.  It the ministry of the Holy Spirit that enables us to see the sin in our lives and repent.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit of God moves us toward a joyous life on this earth while preparing us for an eternity with our Creator.

Come worship the sovereign Creator this Sunday morning as He strengthens us through Word and prayer in corporate worship.

Corporate Confession:
Taken from John 6:28-29, 1 John 1:9, Acts 16:30-31

Leader:   What must we do, to be doing the works of God?

People:    This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.

Leader:   What must we do to be saved?

People:    Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

(A time of silent confession before God)

Promise of Forgiveness: Acts 15:10-11

The Affirmation of Faith       The Heidelberg Catechism Q. 40-42

Leader: Why was it necessary for Christ to humble himself even “unto death”

People: Because with respect to the justice and truth of God, satisfaction for our sins could be made no other way than by the death of the Son of God.

Leader: Why was he also “buried”?

People: Thereby to prove that he was really dead.

Leader: Since then Christ died for us, why must we also die?

People: Our death is not a satisfaction for our sins, but only an abolishing of sin, and a passage into eternal life.

Song of Rejoicing: Soon and Very Soon
